What is this game about?

Chi is a horror game that (poorly) facades as a cute story in which you play as a six year old girl who lives in a small village in Japan with her family and her small dog. Your father is the priest of the small shrine you live in, and you have to follow several important rules that he has set up to keep the village safe. These are the rules: you know what is best for the villagers, so they have to do whatever you and your family say, you cannot go upstairs, you must give blood every Sunday, and you cannot go into the forest.

This specific Sunday, you play as Chi as she goes on a quest with her puppy, Mitsuru, to get markers so that she can draw some pictures. You complete some minor favors, and get your blood drawn so you're able to get said markers. However, as you're walking home, the evening goes terribly wrong as Mitsuru runs into the forest. With this, in order to save your dog, you have no choice but to run in after her...

Run after her into a forest that no one returns from.

What can you expect from this game in regards to gameplay?

This game is mainly a text based RPGMaker game, with minimal gameplay. You mainly interact with objects and people, with some small fetch quests. The game often appears as a visual novel, with an occasional  quick time event thrown in. There are also some random events, and a couple secret rooms. There is only one ending, but there are some collectables that can slightly affect things.

Please note that I do not have access to a Linux system, so there may be bugs that I'm not aware of. Feel free to let me know and I'll attempt to fix them!

hey its eden! this might be a silly comment, but i wanna let u know how much ur game reignited my passion for art. Chi came at a very dark time for me, and made me experience a catharsis and wanting for more. Cheers to you and your future endeavors!

question is there a different outcome if chi goes home without looking for her dog or can she actually even do that? :

She cannot! It forces you into the forest.

ahh alright then thank you for telling me ^^

Hello! I was really interested in your game and got it gifted by a friend yesterday!

[SPOILER FOR THE GAME CAUSE I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT IT]

I have played it up until the point Chi is thrown in the uhm prison cell? Her dad comes to pick her up and takes her to a room. Normally (I've seen a walkthrough till that point) a cutscene should start. But Chi's dad is not in frame and I can walk freely in the bed. I can't get past this point.

Is there maybe something wrong with my files?

Hope you can help me and keep it up!
Love the game sofar!

Seconded. Same issue in the same location. Unsure what is causing it even after starting a fresh run.

ahhh, how fun for me—new bugs haha I’ll get to work on them tomorrow. I’m so sorry, I’ll definitely fix them!!

All right, new version that should fix this issue is now up! I'm so sorry for the trouble, I accidentally clicked one little thing, and it broke the whole game haha. If you have any further issues, please don't be afraid to reach out!!

Thank you so much! I finished the game! Don't know whether I have triggered every  event since I missed it at first and then did it again.

Love the game! Really nice art, animations and story! Love the different perspectives and how the story ended.

Few issues:

My game did crash a few times, I don't know whether this was intended or not. I also wanted to stream this to my friends but the video/image/game somehow didn't pick up on Discord.

But that's all. Really enjoyed your game and am looking forward to your next projects!

Hi! I'm just wondering if there's a quick way to decode the binary text :) It's tedious to type it out into an online converter, haha - if it's translated somewhere, it would be super awesome if you can help me find it! Thank you!

If you go to YouTube, ManlyBadassHero has played the game. Some of the top comments have all but Chi’s father’s text. :)

Hi! I love the art so much and I'm really excited to see where the story goes. Is there any way to disable/auto complete the quick time events? I've got arthris and mainly use speech to text and they've been pretty difficult for me to complete.

As of right now, there isn’t—but I can figure something out for you, I’m sure! I didn’t expect the game to gain as much attention as it did, so I didn’t think as hard about accessibility, and I regret that. I’ll let you know when I update the game, and I’ll be putting in such accessibility features in from the beginning  in the future.  Thank you for playing it at all!

Of course! It's a really well made game regardless. Thank you for considering this in the future!

Hello, I've attempted to add an accessibility mode! I've updated the game files to show this! You'll need to speak to Sekigawa-san, the old lady outside Chi's house, and she'll be able to turn it on! If you have issues, please let me know!

Hi! I'm here from manlybadasshero's playthrough on Youtube, but if I had the funds I'd love to buy this for myself at some point

For your first ever game, I think this is really good! HUGE fan of all the CGs, the game over animations, and how wild some of the expressions are. I wish I was able to push my own art to that extent, you really did an amazing job with making the characters look absolutely insane.

The plot twist definitely caught me off-guard, I wasn't expecting the angle you ended up going with, but... If you decide to keep exploring this world in future projects, I'd definitely be interested in seeing where you go with it. It's definitely an interesting angle to go for, but I think it worked out well (trying to be as spoiler-free as possible, haha).

Overall I think you did a really good job with you first official project, and I'm definitely curious to see what else you'll make in the future!<3
